Our Lady of Celestial Fire

Festival of Matronalia

March 1

(Roman) Ancient: Kal. Mar. (new moon).
The Kalends of March, the old New Year’s Day, are sacred to Juno Lucina (from lux = light) as the goddess of childbirth, who brings babies from the womb into the light. Husbands pray for the health of their wives and give them presents; the wives, in turn, entertain the servants. Everyone dresses up, and there is general celebration, feasting and play.
